Bluff or Believable? GOP Officials “Brace” for Loss Of Seven to 30 House Seats
Read More About: 2006 Elections, Republicans,
My hunch is that the Republicans are lowering the bar:
Republican campaign officials said yesterday that they expect to lose at least seven House seats and as many as 30 in the Nov. 7 midterm elections, as a result of sustained violence in Iraq and the page scandal involving former GOP representative Mark Foley.
In other words, if they beat the spread, then it’s a glorious victory!
If that isn’t the right way to read their comment, then the alternative way is to presume that they’re trying to lose the election!
I mean seriously: talk like that doesn’t motivate anybody on the Republican side, does it?
Karl Rove surely must understand that, no?
In his private briefing Monday, Rove noted that with the Democrats needing just 15 seats to take control of the House, “every seat matters.”[...]
Overall, Rove sought to sound upbeat as he addressed the activists. He predicted the GOP would hold the House and Senate, but seemed to acknowledge that his hopes had been dampened in recent days.
“I felt great about [the House] before Foley,” he said. “But I still feel good about it.”
He might be whistling past the graveyard (or not) but you have to give him points for trying to keep people motivated.

Bluff. But no points for Rove. He’s just playing the last remaining cards from the crooked deck he brought to the game.
