Barack’s Blackberry

OK, so now we’re hearing about how hard it’s going to be for Obama to give up his Blackberry, right?

And I’m like, “Don’t take my Blackberry! I need my connection to the Internet.” Then I realized that they’re talking about taking just his Blackberry away, not all Blackberries.

Yeah, I know: it’s addictive.

Anyway, I bought mine right after Hurricane Gustav because I didn’t want to be without Internet access again for 23 days after the next hurricane. But somehow, I don’t think Obama will have that problem. Fact is, he can turn to his body man, Reggie Love, and have HIM find whatever it is he needs from HIS Blackberry. This would seem to mitigate the problem of the president leaving recoverable information out there in the form of text messages, browsing histories, etc.

But more than that is the simple fact that President Obama won’t have a lot of time to use his Crackberry to find stuff out. The stuff, shall we say, will find HIM.

It reminds me of an interview I saw Bush give to Matt Lauer early in his first term. They were both standing in the Oval Office and Lauer got, well, snarky. “So Mr. President, what time do you get down here in the morning? Eight-thirty? Nine o’clock?”

Bush gave him a sidelong glance. “Actually, Matt, I get here at 7am, but it really doesn’t matter when I get here. If they need to, they’ll come and find me wherever I am.”
