Sanctimony + Conviction = Lieberman

Looks more and more likely that Sen. Lieberman will be given a Get Out Of Jail Free card when the Senate votes later this morning on his fate. And that’s not all:

[O]ne Senate Democratic aide said bluntly: “The left has been foiled again. They can rant and rage but they still do not put the fear into folks to actually change their votes. Their influence would be in question.”

So here’s the thing: if Lieberman wants to launch an investigation of Pres. Obama’s administration at some later date (say, to uncover all the Marxist/Socialist/Islamofascists lurking in the Executive Branch), there is nothing stopping him. He will be, after all, the chairman of the relevant committee.

I used to think that the worst combination in a congressman was “shallowness + arrogance.” Now I’m thinking it’s “sanctimony + conviction.”

Mark this date on the calendar. Future Democratic congressman will look back at this day and wonder what the hell they were thinking.
