Louisiana Republican Gov. Jindal calls for “Day of Prayer” while Louisiana Guard sits & waits & waits for him to call
Here’s what I don’t get:
There is a major leak — a volcano of oil — erupting from the sea floor in the Gulf. No one knows how to stop it or is willing to do what is necessary to keep it from happening in the first place. We all agree on that.
That said, wouldn’t it be prudent to temporarily stop all deep water drilling — not pumping, mind you (the thousands of existing wells are free to keep operating) — wouldn’t it make sense to stop drilling deep water wells until “we” get a handle on this?
Wouldn’t that make sense?
BTW, we’re talking 33 wells a-drilling, not the several thousand that are already pumping.
As of today, we’ve got three out of four Gulf state governors (and their constituencies) advocating a continuation of a failed policy and procedure because “we need the jobs.” WTF?
If a car manufacturer were manufacturing a car that exploded upon reaching a speed of 25 miles per hour, wouldn’t it make sense to stop making that freaking car until you could fix the design flaw? Or would you argue that they need to keep making and selling those cars because “we need the jobs?”
Curious side note: the fourth governor — independent Charlie Crist of Florida — advocates the moratorium and is “cleaning up” (sorry) in the polls in his race to gain the open Senate seat in Florida that is at stake in November.
Curiouser side note: Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal is calling for a statewide day of prayer on 6-27 while simultaneously having the Louisiana National Guard sit on its hands instead of being thrown into the breach to clean up the gusher. Also, WTF?
Note: The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and over and over again while hoping for a different result.
Your thoughts?
