Health Care Reform Will Help Everybody (Barbara O’Brien)

Aug 1st, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: Health + Wellness, Lead Article

In recent years millions of Americans have been bankrupted by medical costs, and three-quarters of the medically bankrupt had health insurance. And yes, insurance companies even dumped hard-working, law-abiding patriots. But the health care reform act will put an end to that, and now America’s hard-working, law-abiding patriots are more financially secure, whether they like it or not.

Banksy Does Detroit: “I remember when all this was trees.”

Banksy shows up at the old Packard Plant on East Grand Boulevard in Detroit, not far from where I grew up.

Bobby Jindal’s Louisiana: Is there a rash of armed robberies during the Doxology that I’m not aware of…?

Jul 8th, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: Guns, Louisiana, Politics, Republicans

This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of:
Gov. Bobby Jindal has signed into law one of the more controversial bills from the recent legislative session, one allowing guns to be carried into houses of worship….[The] bill would authorize persons who qualified to carry concealed weapons having passed the training and background checks to [...]

It’s OK to feel that Obama has sold out. But if you sit out the next election, things will get FAR worse…not better.

Jul 5th, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: Politics

You heard me. The same Republicans who didn’t know how to govern before will be back — and this time they’ll put the cherry on top by moving to impeach a sitting Democratic president.
You can disagree if you like, but if we’ve learned anything from the last two years it’s that you cannot overestimate how b@tsh#t [...]

Happy July 4th and may we keep this Republic we have been given — a republic of laws, not men.

Government of, by, and for the shareholders? No way, baby!

Jun 30th, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: Economics, Jobs, Politics, Republicans

Once upon a time, we actually had government by the shareholders. That’s basically what our country was back in 1789: white property owners had the right to vote. No one else did. That was wrong and, over time, we extended the vote to most everyone else. Now they want to turn back the clock to 1789.

iPhone Fanboy: “Doctor, I drop calls when I do this.” Doctor: “Then stop doing it.”

Jun 29th, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: Technology

As if AT&T’s sucky 3G network weren’t enough (“They make your amazing phone unusable as a phone!”) now there’s this:
Apple accused of ‘discrimination’ over iPhone 4
Apple fans flocked…to buy the iPhone 4 after it went on sale on Thursday.
But there have been complaints an antenna in the lower left corner can become masked when held [...]

Remember that thing about Petraeus running for President in 2012? Yeah…not so much anymore.

Three birds. One stone.

Robert Byrd, 1917-2010

Jun 28th, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: Politics

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Senator Robert Byrd.
As for the politics of it, his seat might go Republican in the fall and it might not. Depends on the available candidates and the resulting campaigns.
The (Democratic) governor of WV will have a lot to say about the framework of that [...]

The coming Third Depression: Those aren’t deficit hawks circling up there, those are buzzards.

Jun 28th, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: 2010 Elections, Economics, Jobs, Politics

Paul Krugman writes this morning about a third Great Depression and the futility of…:
…orthodoxy that has little to do with rational analysis, whose main tenet is that imposing suffering on other people is how you show leadership in tough times. And who will pay the price for this triumph of orthodoxy? The answer [...]
