Bobby Jindal’s Louisiana: Is there a rash of armed robberies during the Doxology that I’m not aware of…?

Jul 8th, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: Guns, Louisiana, Politics, Republicans

This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of:
Gov. Bobby Jindal has signed into law one of the more controversial bills from the recent legislative session, one allowing guns to be carried into houses of worship….[The] bill would authorize persons who qualified to carry concealed weapons having passed the training and background checks to [...]

It’s OK to feel that Obama has sold out. But if you sit out the next election, things will get FAR worse…not better.

Jul 5th, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: Politics

You heard me. The same Republicans who didn’t know how to govern before will be back — and this time they’ll put the cherry on top by moving to impeach a sitting Democratic president.
You can disagree if you like, but if we’ve learned anything from the last two years it’s that you cannot overestimate how b@tsh#t [...]

Government of, by, and for the shareholders? No way, baby!

Jun 30th, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: Economics, Jobs, Politics, Republicans

Once upon a time, we actually had government by the shareholders. That’s basically what our country was back in 1789: white property owners had the right to vote. No one else did. That was wrong and, over time, we extended the vote to most everyone else. Now they want to turn back the clock to 1789.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of Senator Robert Byrd.
As for the politics of it, his seat might go Republican in the fall and it might not. Depends on the available candidates and the resulting campaigns.
The (Democratic) governor of WV will have a lot to say about the framework of that [...]

The coming Third Depression: Those aren’t deficit hawks circling up there, those are buzzards.

Jun 28th, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: 2010 Elections, Economics, Jobs, Politics

Paul Krugman writes this morning about a third Great Depression and the futility of…:
…orthodoxy that has little to do with rational analysis, whose main tenet is that imposing suffering on other people is how you show leadership in tough times. And who will pay the price for this triumph of orthodoxy? The answer [...]

Success means making steady progress toward a worthy goal. By that measure, Barack Obama is a successful progressive president.

Louisiana Republican Gov. Jindal calls for “Day of Prayer” while Louisiana Guard sits & waits & waits for him to call

Jun 26th, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: Environment, Louisiana, Politics

Here’s what I don’t get:
There is a major leak — a volcano of oil — erupting from the sea floor in the Gulf. No one knows how to stop it or is willing to do what is necessary to keep it from happening in the first place. We all agree on that.
That said, [...]

Krugman for OMB Director?

Jun 23rd, 2010 | By Ara Rubyan | Category: Economics, Politics

Simon Johnson:
The president should nominate Paul Krugman to replace Peter Orszag as director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
A fantasy. A pleasant fantasy, but it’s not going to happen. Why? Because it’s a good idea.
